As a fully accredited and experienced therapist I offer counselling to both individuals and couples in Cambridge. I have worked within the NHS, Private Practice and have 12 years experience of working at the University of Cambridge with both students and staff.
As a qualified supervisor I offer clinical supervision of other counsellors, psychotherapists and mental health professionals. I work with individuals, dyads and groups and have a wealth of experience working with therapists during all stages of their careers including training.
I specialise in short-term focused therapy but am trained and experienced in offering long-term counselling too. My aim is to help clients identify and explore issues. Through forging a strong and committed professional therapeutic relationship, I work on constructive ways of resolving patterns of responding accordingly.
I have a special interest in working with eating disorders, and have many years of experience working with clients struggling with disordered eating and other negative and compulsive coping mechanisms including alcohol and self-harm. I work both individually and with groups in this area.
I believe our early patterns of responding to others and how we learn to manage our feelings lead to us develop patterns of relating to both our inner and outer world often in a compromised manner. By exploring these patterns much greater insight and self-awareness are gained, and relatively small changes in thinking and behaviour can lead to far-reaching positive consequences.
People approach therapy for a myriad of different reasons but the important starting point is that they recognise that they may be feeling 'stuck' and unable to resolve their troubles. My view is that counselling is like physiotherapy for the mind, and offers the unique opportunity to look at one's own situation (whether as an individual or as a couple) more objectively within a confidential and non-judgmental setting. It offers the space to explore issues, gain far deeper self-awareness and seek resolution resulting in the opportunity to move forwards more positively.
